Residences in the centre of Catania
Inner Court is a residential project located in the centre of Catania.
The project reorganises a compact urban lot by creating a shared internal space: a green courtyard that becomes the heart of the architecture and the main connecting element between the dwellings.
The project develops around this central void, transforming it into a collective space. The courtyard is not only a distribution space, but also a place for meeting, light and breathing space within the compact fabric of the historic city. The vegetation, the system of paths and the open spaces contribute to creating an urban micro-landscape that restores environmental quality and visual continuity to the dwellings.
A characteristic element of the project is the large external staircase, which crosses the courtyard vertically and becomes a recognisable architectural feature of the intervention. Together with the metal walkways connecting the different levels, it creates a system of open walkways that transforms distribution into a spatial experience. The staircase is not only a functional element but a real vertical street that connects the inhabitants and animates the interior space.
The residential units overlook the courtyard through loggias and balconies, creating a dynamic and permeable internal façade. The rhythm of solids and voids, together with the modularity of the openings, defines a contemporary architectural language that dialogues with the surrounding urban scale.
