Panoramic rooftop that transforms the roof of a historic building into a new urban space overlooking the city of Catania and the landscape of Mount Etna.
The roof is a transformation project that reconfigures the roof of an existing building in the centre of Catania into a new panoramic space dedicated to socialising and contemplating the urban landscape. The project stems from the idea of restoring an often forgotten part of architecture to the city: the roof, reinterpreted as a habitable and collective space.
The new pavilion is a light, permeable structure that defines a protected space that is open to the view. A sequence of vertical elements punctuates the volume and creates an architectural frame that filters natural light and frames the views of the historic city and the silhouette of Mount Etna.
The architecture favours an essential language, made up of clear proportions and warm materials. The structure integrates with the existing terrace and creates continuity between the interior and exterior, transforming the rooftop into a veritable urban loggia suspended above the city.
The project organises the space as a fluid environment, where lounge areas, meeting areas and dining spaces coexist within an open and flexible platform. The presence of greenery, the use of wood and the transparency of the surfaces contribute to creating a welcoming atmosphere, capable of connecting architecture, sky and landscape.
